About our Medical Services
The Medical Services Center employs board-certified psychiatrists and Psychiatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners who provide medication management to both adults and children in collaboration with their therapy. These services include psychiatric evaluation, education, diagnostics and the administration of prescription medication. Qualifying diagnoses include: Severe Mentally Illness with bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD, Autism Spectrum disorders, anxiety disorders and depression. Services are also provided to individuals diagnosed with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities currently enrolled in the MR/DD program.
What Medical Services are offered?
Medical Services Center nursing services include medication refills, medication problems and the distribution of samples. Other services provided are patient education and assistance with low cost assessment. Our onsite pharmacy, Genoa, is available for patients to fill prescriptions or ask questions that relate to their medications. Genoa also manages our Medline Prescription Questions Service.
We offer a weekly injection clinic for consumers who have been prescribed antipsychotic injections.
Four Rivers Behavioral Health’s Medical Services office works with patients to enroll them in patient assistance programs through drug manufacturers and obtain prior approval for medications through insurance.

Dr. Duncan E. Darnell
Director of Medical Services
Dr. Duncan E. Darnell, MD is the Department Head for Four Rivers Behavioral Health’s Medical Services Center. Dr. Darnell graduated medical school from James H. Quillen College of Medicine and completed residency in General Psychiatry and a fellowship in Child/Adolescent Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina’s Institute of Psychiatry. Dr. Darnell is the only Board Certified Child Psychiatrist in the region.
